6-APB Powder: An Overview of Effect, Risks and Legal Situation

6-APB powder (6-(2-Aminopropyl)benzofuran), also known as "Benzo Fury", is a synthetic substance from the group of benzofurans. Chemically, it belongs to the family of phenylethylamines and has structural similarities to MDMA (ecstasy). In the form of white to Brownish Powder is often marketed as a "research chemical", although it is illegal in many countries.

Effect and consumption

6-APB powder is usually taken orally, but can also be washed or taken into cigarette paper ("bombing"). The action usually starts after 30 to 60 minutes and can last up to 8 hours. Experience reports indicate empathogenic and stimulating effects, including euphoria, increased sociality and more intense perception of music and colours. Physically, symptoms such as extended pupils, increased pulse, jaw tension and insomnia can occur.

Risks and side effects

Despite the euphorizing effect, 6-APB has considerable health risks. There are reports on acute psychotic reactions, hallucinations, anxiety states and even self-infringements after consumption. Long-term use can lead to sleep disorders, anxiety and increased risk for cardiovascular diseases. In some cases, deaths related to 6-APB were documented.

Legal situation in Germany

Since 17. July 2013 is 6-APB in Germany according to § 1 para. 1 No. 2 BtMG listed in Appendix II of the German Drugs Act (BtMG) and thus illegal. The possession, trade or production of the substance is punishable. Similar regulations also apply in other European countries such as France, Italy and Finland.

Conclusion

Although 6-APB has been regarded as 'legal high' in the past, the substance is not harmless due to its health risks and legal situation in many countries. Consumption can have serious health consequences and the legal consequences cannot be underestimated. It is therefore advisable to stay away from such substances and to inform themselves about the legal provisions in their own country.
